That 'aperitivo moment' — as the Italians call it — has always typically been regarded as one of conviviality and pleasure. Casoni, ever attentive to evolving market trends and consumer demand, has come up with two significant products:
1814 - l’Aperitivo and 1814 - il Bitter. These are alcoholic aperitivi which are both inspired by company traditions (1814 was the year the company was established) and interpret its modernity by bringing to market these two new innovative products.
THE RITUAL OF THE APERITIVO
That 'momento dell'aperitivo' (or 'aperitivo moment’), as the Italians like to call it, has, over the years, become a genuinely ingrained social custom, a special moment to connect and share with friends during the week or at the weekend. A good aperitivo can be made at home or enjoyed in the finest bars in town. Its history, however, begins much earlier, beyond the borders of Italy, between the fifth century BC and the cafes of the 1800s.
THE BIRTH OF THE APERITIVO
The earliest drink to be called 'aperitivo' dates back to a long time to the fifth century BC, when Hippocrates, one of the most famous doctors of the period, decided to create a drink made from flavoured wine, absinthe and herbs. It turned out to be an almost magical, medicinal potion, used mainly for loss of appetite. He could never in that age have imagined how things would turn out in the future, or foreseen how his beverage, as it evolved down the centuries, would become the base from which all modern cocktails descended. Rather like, one has to say, the range of aperitivi from Casoni's artisan distillery — hugely diverse beverages but always produced according to the traditional recipes of the family from Finale. THE APERITIVO TODAY
In recent decades, the consumption of alcoholic beverages outside the home has increased significantly. In every major city in the world, pubs and lounge bars have set up shop and got themselves established by offering a plethora of cocktails to sate contemporary consumer tastes.
